By popular request we have introduced our new course

               Level I - Teach a Single Rider

Not everyone has access to a lot of students. Especially our students in remote areas are at a clear disadvantage. Some have only one school horse they use for teaching, others travel and also teach one on one lessons with students on their own horse.

So, we have taken our idea to our insurance brokers and they are enthusiastic about the. After all by teaching just one student the risk factor is reduced tremendously. It is unlikely that some riders are behind your back or that some horses run into one another.

It will be easier for students to complete the practicals as most already have a student and horse they can use. All the practicals can be done in one or two sessions. So, ...

                   A WIN-WIN for everyone!

The course is industry and insurance approved (insurance cost starts from $ 500.00/year when teaching a single rider).
Total cost Level I Teach a single Rider course is $ 895.00 (save $ 115.00) including video assessments of practical tasks, but can be bought in blocks @ $ 225.00 each.

It’s the insurance that protects you and your students in case something unforeseen happens. Statistically instructors with a qualification have a far better safety record.

When you start teaching as a full or part time coach you in fact have also started a little business. Teaching is an important part of your business. For your students to progress they need to come back regularly. And you need to have the theoretical knowledge to develop their skills, one step at a time. At the same time you are in a service industry, meaning your students take nothing home apart from a great lesson and a desire to know more ... because you are knowledgeable, passionate and giving explanations they can understand.

You need to understand some basic business principles. Teaching might be rewarding, but if it means you don’t make an income, the shine soon disappears. So, we have included basic business principles to help you make your business profitable and give some tips how to promote yourself.

The HRC-Level I Instructor will lay the foundations with your students for later progress. We explain the basics in a natural sequence. With a combined 60 years of experience we also know the most common problems your riders have when learning new (riding) skills and have included many solutions. Check out the Tack Room Tale: The Enjoyment of Teaching Horse Riding.

We have also included “Teach riders unmounted” where you can instill safe practices. We believe that Safe Practices make Safe Horses. This becomes the ‘fall back’ position when students in later life discover shortcuts that may not be so safe.

What can you do with the Level I qualification?
Many qualified students are self employed as travelling instructors. Others wanted to make their acreage productive by agisting horses and starting a (small) riding school, sometimes with just one 'schoolie'. The business part and designing a safe equestrian facility prepare our students with much practical advice.
